Our power finally came back sometime this weekend. [info]acostilow, both our cats, and I have all been staying with my parents an hour away, so we didn't come back over the weekend to check if it was on yet. We still haven't cleaned out the fridge (...I know). So we were without power for not quite a week. Several people I know didn't get there's back until Monday, and I don't think they've got everyone up yet.

The library closes at 5 on the 21st and won't open again until 7:30 AM, January 7th. So I'm about to have a really awesomely long break! And! Guess what! I'm going to be working the Reference desk 1.5 hours/week starting next semester! *twirls*

For anyone who hasn't heard from me:

We didn't have power overnight. Still no power this morning. Work was closed yesterday and is opening at 11 today. Mike texted me that the library still has no power, but we have to go in anyway. So I guess we'll just sit there and stare at each other. I'm at Starbucks right now, since I needed to charge my phone and check my email.

If the power stays off...I guess we'll have to board the cats or something and go stay in Shawnee with my folks. Not something I'm looking forward to, but I have no idea how long it will take them to get power back for us. Hopefully it will be back by the time I get home today.

There's a leak in our roof. The phone lines are down, so I can't get through to the office to report it. Whee.

Anyway, we're still alive and kicking. Roads are fine this morning--only took me about half an hour to get to Edmond, which is what it normally takes. I'll check in when I can.

I absolutely love listening to it rain. I even like when there's thunder and lightning and it feels like the storm is going to shake the house down. I hate going out in the rain, but it's wonderful to be curled up inside, listening to the rhythm and knowing you're comfortable and safe. It's been raining for a couple hours, and I'm loving it. I went out on the porch for a minute just to watch, because it hasn't rained in so long and I can hear it better out there. Mostly I've been reading a wonderful long SGA fic, The Hostage Major by Frostfire and enjoying the sound of the rain.

There have been many happy things today. The rain, of course, and some excellent fic, and an SVU episode about a dead guy who had been sleeping with another guy named "Bull Dozer", and lunch at El Matador with Mary Beth.

School is closed today. I didn't realize that until I was actually *at* school, because, silly me, I assumed that, since the roads seemed fine, school would be back on schedule. I had forgotten that this is *Texas*, where we close school in *anticipation* of snow. Not that school being closed does me any good, being as I'm a Distance Ed Student and all. I turned in my Internet final, which is a beautiful website with FOUR different pages. The professor said she'd give bonus points for websites that have more than one page. My website is here if anyone cares.

Today I have:

++ Driven to school and discovered it was closed.

++ Turned in my Internet final.

++ Spent time on the phone with State Farm setting up automatic withdrawals. This phone call coincided, annoyingly, with the beginning of Law & Order, and involved the State Farm lady calling me "kiddo" approximately 20 times. Yes, I know, they're our "good neighbors" and all. I don't care. I am participating in a *business transaction*. It is not appropriate to call your customer "kiddo." The end.

++ Watched two episodes of Law & Order.

++ Made biscuits.

++ Watched Jeopardy! and told Alex to shut up several times.

++ Read my friends list.

I've just realized that the Library School's Fall Forum starts on September 30th at 6 PM. And I've been planning to go. But now I'm all, "B-but--Serenity!" I must go see Serenity on September 30th! What will I do? School is daring to interfere with fannish pursuits. This cannot be allowed to happen.

They're predicting that we might lose power this weekend because of the hurricane. I feel like I ought to work on my school work now, since it's due Monday and I might not have power to work on it closer to. But, you know, who wants to do that? I went to Wal-Mart yesterday because I needed a flashlight, and stuff I can eat that doesn't have to be refrigerated or cooked. Everybody and their brother was at Wal-Mart buying bottled water. Am I just not freaked out enough, or are they overreacting? I was going to fill up my car yesterday, too, but there were lines at all the gas stations and I didn't feel like waiting. I'm hoping it's just because it was rush hour. I may go this afternoon and see.
