I spent the morning (in between fixing stupid people's non-problems) finding icons for my new(ish) fandoms and filling all my icon slots. I have ONE HUNDRED NINETEEN ICONS, y'all! *does a happy dance* Of course, I will probably need to delete some once I start watching Angel and need an icon for that. Woe. And, you know, whatever other new fandoms I come across. [info]picara is preparing to push Arrested Development. But right now I am totally caught up yay! *points at shiny new icon of Ten*

This is my new favorite icon EVAR. It was made by [info]iconzicons. Also, it is appropriate, because today sucks very much. Classes start today, and my teacher still hasn't made the class accessible on Blackboard. H, my boss, is being an asshole (as per usual). I'm trying to decipher this obnoxious spreadsheet that was created before I started working here, and I know that H will hold me responsible for anything wrong with it, even though I neither created it, designed it, nor entered the data into it. And? I didn't get any ketchup with my french fries at Sonic!

I seriously do hate my job (which is mostly H's fault, but I digress), and I'd really like to leave. But I really don't want to look for another job, as job-hunting is pretty much my idea of hell. It took me many months to find this job, and I don't want to do that again. (I don't have time, either, now that I think about it. I work 7:30 - 4:30 every day.) I'm supposed to be able to use my vacation days beginning July 1st, so maybe I'll plan on doing a little looking as I have time, knowing I can set up interviews then. Of course, as I mentioned, school's starting today, so I expect to have precious little free time. But I have to finish this degree if I want to actually find a permanent job that I will hopefully like. The head reference librarian here was telling me the other day (in response to finding out that I'm in library school) that Systems is very cool because you get to know about computers and fix everything, etc. etc. Uh-huh. You also get to get paid practically nothing (for a job requiring a college degree!), and get to deal with everyone's problems, and get to work for the loathsome H, and get to be treated like you're just passing through because you're not actually a librarian. *points to icon* See? Appropriate.

Ooh, this is fun! I have clearly learned so much from CSI. And it's ALL TRUE.

Anybody have any to add?

I've just spent the evening filling up about 30 of my icon slots. I have so many PRETTY PRETTY icons and I want to use them ALL AT ONCE.

GIP: This is one of my new X-Files icons. Mulder and Scully go undercover as Rob and Laura Petrie. They pronounce it "petri," like the dish.

OMG [info]picara rocks so hard! She made me pretty new icons for Christmas and they are perfect! (I love how *menacing* Santa Claus is Coming to Town sounds in the Discworld universe.)

LJ is being a bitch. It's refusing to load pages, or taking 20 minutes to load them. Shut up, LJ.

I'm still sick. Grr.

Today I went to the library. Go me! Unfortunately, I didn't get a lot done. My excuse is that the wireless Internet wasn't working there. (Not that that would have kept me from writing papers or whatever, but it makes a good excuse.) Mary Beth helped me find some articles I needed, so I've got them all printed out for whenever I get around to actually doing the assignments.

Now I'm watching House. I just watched Cursed, and OMG Chase is so adorable. And he's so sweet to the kid! And I like how he doesn't let Cameron cajole him into being nice to his dad, because shut up Cameron.

GIP! This is my new House icon. Hugh Laurie has beautiful eyes.

Grr. I bought some CD-Rs so I could burn Twitch City and due South season 4 for [info]picara, but they won't work. The computer keeps insisting that they're not writable. I tried a CD-RW I already had and it worked fine. I don't have any other CD-Rs, though, so I can't test to see if it's griping about all CD-Rs. Stupid computer.

I broke down and bought Oz Season 3 today. I bought jeans a couple days ago. Also a pair of cords from The Gap that I am totally in love with. I was going to buy them in another color, which they didn't have at the store when I was there, but Gap.com is closed, apparently. Who CLOSES their WEBSITE? Morons.

I'm still enjoying my vacation, which is almost over. I've spent quite a lot of time watching reruns of Law and Order: SVU. Also M*A*S*H and The X-Files. When I was at Best Buy buying Oz I noticed that SVU is out on DVD. I was tempted, but then I realized there isn't really much point to buying it. SVU is on TV an average of five times a day already. Same for M*A*S*H. And The X-Files just costs too much. Seriously, it's like eighty dollars a season.

My parents are thinking about visiting me Labor Day weekend. If they do, hopefully I can buy a bed then and they can help me transport it. In secret news we're not telling my parents: I bought a full/queen quilt already. (No, not the one on Ebay.) Mother wants to go shopping at Grapevine, which is going to be all kinds of fun on a holiday weekend, I'm sure. At least I'm not driving. She also wants to eat at Panera Bread. I eat there at least once a week, and any time I mention it to her she acts like I'm doing it specifically to make her jealous.

Well, that was definitely a bunch of unconnected (and probably boring) news. But I haven't updated in awhile, and I have very little to say. I do, however, have a new icon. It's by [info]pearl_o. See? Dan is so very hurty.

I'm back from Oklahoma. Had a headache most of the drive back, which wasn't helped by looking at bright headlights a lot. I've just finished catching up on my friends list, which had gotten to skip=200 without me checking it constantly.

I have a big project due in Collection Development Tuesday night, so the next couple days are gonna be hectic. I'm probably around a third of the way through, and I'm not sure what format we're supposed to use to turn it in. I think she might want it printed out, which is annoying. My spreadsheet is too wide to print and have it look right. Basically what we're doing is picking a subject and creating a collection of books and other items for a pretend library we make up, with a budget of $2000. I have to figure out where the money comes from (e.g. famous person donates it for the purpose of setting up a collection on their pet topic) and write various collection development policy stuff, then talk about what I learned and crap like that. My topic is arctic exploration. So far I've managed to find about 20 books that I ABSOLUTELY MUST READ. This is not counting the ones I've already read. As you can see, I picked a topic I can gush about at great length. So far, I've just been putting the books in whatever order I find them, but I'd like to go back and separate them by what explorer they're about and stuff, so it's easier to see what kind of coverage I've got. I'm thinking that would make it more interesting (at least to me). There'd be topics like: Sir John Franklin, Sir John Ross, Elisha Kent Kane, North Pole, South Pole, Antarctica, Northwest Passage, William McClintock, Modern Exploration, Women Explorers (as someone on Amazon said, "cuz heaven forbid they'd just get in the other books"), Inuit, George Back, John Rae, Robert Falcon Scott, Roald Amundsen, OMG I LOVE THIS TOPIC!!!1!1!!!

I read two books this weekend, which was an amazing and wonderful treat. I mean, I reread the Honor Harrington books every five seconds, but I don't get to new stuff nearly as often. It takes more concentration to keep track of what's going on if I haven't read it before, so if I feel like I don't have enough time I don't tend to read as much new stuff. So I read Anything but Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth by Wayne R. Besen. Ex-gay ministries have been in the news a lot lately, because of Zach and because of a series on Salon.com. Love in Action actually came to SNU while I was there and did a chapel presentation, which apparently was rather misleading, according to the information in this book. That is, they said that being sexually abused as a child is what makes you gay, and that anybody can become 100% heterosexual (among other things). Now that I know there are religious groups who believe the Bible doesn't condemn homosexuality and who dispute the claims of ex-gay ministries and their supposed success rates (none of them actually keep statistics), it seems like it would have been appropriate for SNU to let us know there was an opposing view. I also read What the Bible Really Says About Homosexuality by Daniel A. Helminiak, because I'm curious about about what pro-gay scholars have to say about the Bible's views.

Finally, GIP to [info]lafemme_icons. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead: like Terry Pratchett, except it's LITRACHUR!

Wow. I don't know how they even called the stage today. Check this out:

Stage 8 Photo Finish )

They gave it to Pieter Weening, but I really think that was a tie if there ever was a tie. Weening is on the far side. Andreas Klöden is closest to the camera, in pink.

It's interesting that Armstrong ended up in the front group, but his teammates didn't. It didn't hurt anything, but it could have if he'd needed help. And, woo! Ullrich's in the top 10 for the first time this Tour! Looks like this is going to be an exciting Tour. Phil & Paul say the only way any of the GC contenders can hope to beat Armstrong is to just keep attacking over and over again, like they did today.

GIP! It's Ivan Basso! And he's wearing jeans! And there's bikes!

Okay, here's the deal. This week sucks. Really really really sucks. I couldn't get to sleep Sunday night, so then I felt icky on Monday and had to miss work. I seem to be missing work about once a week for illness, which does *not* make me feel like I'm making a good impression at work. I'm also behind in my Reference class. Grr. Bite me, world.

My current annoyance is LJ. The Memories function *still* isn't working. It wasn't working last night, and it's not working now, and LJ is making my life worse. Shut up, LJ.

Also, I downloaded a video file and it won't play. It's all jerky for a few seconds, then the picture freezes while the audio goes on. HATE!

Two things that are good:

++The new Coldplay album, which I love OMG. And yes, I bought it because Jon Stewart recced it. Shut up. He also recced the new Foo Fighters, but I haven't bought that one yet. See, I'm showing restraint!
++GIP! Yesterday, Canada provided yet another reason why it rocks.

Whoo! I now have a paid account. I have 15 icon spaces! I have a due South mood theme! I'm also debuting my new layout, since I got all excited about LJ last night and set it up instead of doing my Collection Development reading. Or, you know, going to bed on time. I think I'm constitutionally required to put in a ticky box poll at some point, but I'm not in the mood for that now. I'm not at work today, because I wasn't feeling well and ended up waaayy oversleeping. I'm still going to have to go to class tonight, though, so here's hoping I feel better by then. Also, GIP! Check out my new socks icon by [info]natgel! I didn't realize how much I was going to love this icon till I started using it. They're rainbow socks! Yay!

I have a couple assignments due by midnight tonight, so naturally I'm updating LJ. :-D I don't think they'll be that big a deal, actually. I've already started both of them. (I know, go me! Can you believe it?) I was at the laundromat this afternoon, so I did as much of both of them as I could do without a computer.

As soon as I get these assignments turned in, it'll essentially be spring break! My folks are visiting this weekend, so I need to do a little more cleaning (dusting and the bathroom are all I can think of). Plus I need to put my clean clothes away. Sara is planning to visit later in the week, and Erin is going to come sometime this week too, as soon as she figures out when she can take off work. So it's going to be a busy week. Yay!

I went to see the doctor earlier this week, and she said I shouldn't stop seeing the counselor right before spring break (since I got to feeling so much worse over Christmas, the last major break we had). So I went to see the counselor yesterday. She still annoys the hell out of me, but I chickened out and didn't say anything about the problems I'm having with counseling. A minor annoyance: she's another one of those people that I have to explain the Internet to. She's never heard of blogs, so she thinks it's somehow unique that so many people I know have one. Who knows, maybe she's at this moment working on a theory about how all my problems stem from lack of personal communication because everyone I know has a blog and therefore exists only as words on a screen. *rolls eyes*

Ooh, check out my new icon. *points* It's by Kielle. I put her name in the icon info, but it's not showing up. I don't know what's up with that. Grr.
