1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

1. Maude Lebowski, The Big Lebowski
I've always had a little trouble with Maude. I like her, but I can't tell if the filmmakers intended her to be a real character or just a strawfeminist. She does some very strawfeminist things--saying "vagina" a lot to try to make the Dude uncomfortable, for example. But I think she really is a strong woman who's living her life the way she wants to. She likes to shock people, she doesn't care what people think, and she's not afraid to do things on her own (have a baby, for example). (BTW, my iPod is named "Maude".)

2. Mr. Universe, Serenity
The whole thing with his Real Doll bride is creepy. Other than that, though--Mr. Universe is funny. "Guy killed me, Mal! Killed me with a sword! How weird is that?" He betrays the crew of Serenity, but I think that's because his true allegiance is actually to "The Signal". He'd do anything to keep that from being shut down. I was a little annoyed when Joss introduced this character who had never even been mentioned in the series and acted like everyone knew who he was and he was a huge deal. But this is getting into Things About Serenity That Annoy Me.

3. Marissa Cooper, The O.C.
HATE. Oh my god so much hate. I only watched the first couple seasons of The O.C., so I never saw the part with her lesbian experiment or anything like that. But from the part I did see, Marissa is so shallow she'd drown in a puddle, she's a complete idiot, and she's bent on making everything about her to the point of ruining the lives of people she claims to care about. She was always more trouble than Ryan ever was.

4. Malcolm Reynolds, Firefly
Mal is hot. And I love how he loves his ship and the stars and can speak so poetically about them when he's in the right mood. But. He's *really* annoying, what with the whole, "you're part of my crew, no wait, now you're not, oh, now you are again", etc.

5. Moist von Lipvig, Going Postal by Terry Pratchett
Moist is so freaking awesome. I love his view of being a scam artist, how it's about getting someone to do what you want them to do while making them think it was their idea. And he realises, after Vetinari gets to him, that you can do lawful things the same way, which is when he really puts his heart and soul into the post office. I also love how he has all these weird people around him, and he knows they're weird, and he just goes with it, playing to their strengths and accepting their idiosyncrasies.

I rewatched 10 Things I Hate About You last night, because I had not seen it since I realized the guy in it was Heath Ledger. (And we had a free movie rental that was going to expire, you know, today, so obviously I had to go rent *something*.) And OMG baby!Heath! He's ADORABLE. Also: ZOMG Mr. Universe is in it! I totally did not know that. So that was fun.

BTW, there's no way anyone would think Patrick was a badass. I'm just saying.

The night before that I rewatched Hot Fuzz (again with the free rental about to expire), and I had forgotten how awesome that movie was. My dad actually watched most of it with me and enjoyed it, which I didn't expect. I mean, action, explosions, that kind of thing, all up his alley. And comedy. But I was afraid the Britishness would throw him (and the slashy bits, though it's possible those aren't nearly so obvious as my fannish brain thinks they are). Anyone who follows my del.icio.us bookmarks probably noticed I started madly bookmarking Hot Fuzz fic a couple nights ago. Yeah, that was why. And, um, now that I've read all the Hot Fuzz Yuletide fics, I totally need recs for other good ones. Because I'm having some difficulty finding fics that aren't WIPs and/or BDSM. (I don't even know, with the BDSM. It's *Hot Fuzz*, people. Please to be keeping with the tone of the movie, kthxbai.)

Versus claims it's going to show Paris-Roubaix today (a week late, HATE), so I will now be going to watch my boyfriend Tom Boonen win. \o/

Teacher: It's true that there are dangers on the outer planets.

So with so many social and medical advancements...we can bring to the Independents...why would they fight so hard against us?

River: We meddle.

Teacher: River?

River: People don't like to be meddled with.

We tell them what to do, what to think. Don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right.

We're meddlesome.

Teacher: River, we're not telling people what to think...

we're just trying to show them how.

I've been extremely irritable for a few weeks now. I don't know what it is, but practically every night I get to a point where everything people say, to me or to each other, and everything they do annoys me.

I got my hair colored yesterday! It's awesome, three different colors. Lori is completely awesome. The underside is really dark brown-red, which they call Cherry Cola. Then the top is chestnut and blonde in chunks, sort of. I completely love it. No picture yet, unfortunately, but I'll try to get one for you soon.

The Tour de France so far this year has been incredibly weird. Most of the leaders were out before it started, and now even the presumed favorites aren't doing that well, except for Floyd Landis, whose team strategy isn't making a whole lot of sense to me. The yellow jersey is getting passed around a whole bunch to people no one would have expected to get it. I just don't know what to make of it. It's not really as compelling this way, I can't help but feel. However, I do have a new Tour boyfriend, Yaroslav Popovych of Discovery Channel. He's 26 and from the Ukraine and completely adorable. So far this year we have learned that Iban Mayo completely sucks and Floyd Landis' hip is dead. Don't forget. There'll be a test.

I've been working a bit at my old job at SNU in the IT Department. Not full-time, but I am getting a lot of hours. It's not going to be forever, though, so I'm still looking for a real job. *sighs*

Today [info]picara and I hung out with [info]acostilow. We got to cuddle her adorable new kitty, which has been the highlight of my week. I am such a sucker for kittens. She's so small! And soft! We also watched the premier of SGA and Serenity, which I continue to love. [info]acostilow made cherry cheese cake, because she is made of awesome.

Tomorrow I'm not working, so I have my counseling appointment. I think I may possibly have convinced the counselor I'm not seekritly a lesbian. Then again, she may just be biding her time before bringing it up again.

[info]acostilow tagged me, so here goes:

Name your Top 20 List Of Lust, in no particular order. Your neighbor or grade school teacher doesn't count. The list can be male, female or mixed. They can be real life celebrities or characters in a movie or TV show. For example, you might want to gag Mariska Hargitay, while still lusting after Butchy McFabulous Olivia Benson.

Here is my current plan. I will go to work tomorrow from 10-2. While I'm there, I will ask June if she needs me to actually be in the office to work for the rest of the week. She will probably say no. I'll spend the time from 2 to 3 or so getting ready, and head for Shawnee around 3. That gets me there around 6, which is good because it's before Supernatural and House (this is an important factor in my thinking). The plan becomes less specific from there. I will probably stay through the weekend, see Serenity with [info]picara on Friday and be there for Sara's birthday. I can work four hours a day using my parents' computer. So it'll be like a mini-vacation! One where I still have to do work and school, but I'm doing them...someplace else! Whee!

If I'm making little or no sense, it's because I've taken an Ambien. I feel all groggy and weird, but I can't get to sleep. So I was going to listen to MST3K on my laptop, which led to me getting annoyed with my laptop again. Also my DVD player is screwed up. So I want to go somewhere else, and get away from all these hardware problems. (I'm taking the laptop with me, but it won't be connected to the Internet so it won't matter.) The laptop's about to be annoying and overheat, anyway, and then I won't be able to listen to MST3K anyway. *is sad* My torrent has finished, but the files won't play right. The picture's all jerky. I checked the codecs, and GSpot claims I have the right codecs. I'm open to ideas, oh LJ land! I'm going to see if I can play it on [info]picara's laptop, I guess, so I'll know if there's something wrong with the file or with my computer. I am so tired of dealing with this type of crap. SHUT UP COMPUTERS STAB STAB STAB *STAB*.

I've been feeling quite a bit better recently, not nearly as depressed and so forth. I stopped seeing my counselor, because we decided I didn't really need it. However, the last few days have been a little worse again. I was feeling a little down anyway, but then it all blew up on Wednesday. Several of my friends are having crises, and it's way more depressing than I thought it would be to have people around me upset. I don't blame them at all--it's definitely not their job to avoid having problems so as to keep me happy. (So if it's you and you're reading this, don't apologize!) Part of it is that I can't do anything to make things better for them. Part of it is that unhappy friends don't want to spend time hanging out, or if they do we're both kind of down. It took me a few days to notice, but I'm spending more time than I used to lying around at home, bored and not interested in doing anything. I'm also, stupid as it sounds, depressed that I'm not going to get to see Serenity the day it comes out.

I'm getting more and more frustrated with my computer. I think it's the router, making the computer run reaaaaaalllllly slow, to the point where it takes it ten seconds to notice when I've clicked on something. When I disconnect from the Internet it's usually fine (though it still has trouble playing videos), and when I use someone else's router it's fine. I have a DLink router, which is supposed to be relatively good, according to the research I've done. I don't know what to do about it. I thought about getting a different router, but I don't want to spend that kind of money unless I have to. At this point, though, I feel like throwing the computer down the stairs several times a day. Oh, to top it all off, the computer has taken to getting too hot often and shutting itself off, even though I'm resting it on a book instead of directly on my lap. At this point, I think I hate everything about computers.

I've just realized that the Library School's Fall Forum starts on September 30th at 6 PM. And I've been planning to go. But now I'm all, "B-but--Serenity!" I must go see Serenity on September 30th! What will I do? School is daring to interfere with fannish pursuits. This cannot be allowed to happen.

They're predicting that we might lose power this weekend because of the hurricane. I feel like I ought to work on my school work now, since it's due Monday and I might not have power to work on it closer to. But, you know, who wants to do that? I went to Wal-Mart yesterday because I needed a flashlight, and stuff I can eat that doesn't have to be refrigerated or cooked. Everybody and their brother was at Wal-Mart buying bottled water. Am I just not freaked out enough, or are they overreacting? I was going to fill up my car yesterday, too, but there were lines at all the gas stations and I didn't feel like waiting. I'm hoping it's just because it was rush hour. I may go this afternoon and see.

LJ Interests meme results

  1. billy tallent:
Hard Core Logo is a truly wonderful movie, not just from a fannish perspective either. It's DEEP yo. That said, Billy Tallent is rilly rilly pretty, with the hands and the hair and the tattoo and the smoking and the BEING TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH JOE DICK.
  2. christopher buckley:
I love Christopher Buckley's books because they're hilariously funny. I mean, Little Green Men? With the news anchor who gets abducted by "aliens" and then ends up on a crusade to convince everybody it's real? And Thank You for Smoking? He manages to make a tobacco spokesman the hero.
  3. douglas adams:
Okay, Douglas Adams. Douglas Adams is, like, the God of British humor, as far as I'm concerned. I saw The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on the shelf at the library and thought the title was intriguing, and the rest is history. I've reread the Increasingly Inaccurately Named Hitchhiker's Trilogy tons of times and can quote huge parts of it from memory. Yes, I'm a dork. But I'm *lovable*.
  4. girls' bike club:
One of the funniest writers on the Internets is Sars, and her Girls' Bike Club series is just about the best thing ever. It's for famous people who do stupid things! What could be better than that? Mocking of Tom Cruise, and Stephen King, and Dubya, and Ted Kennedy, and--just, read it!
  5. hugh laurie:
Ah, House. I <3 House so much. Hugh Laurie is pretty and snarky, which is really the only reason to watch House, as far as I'm concerned. "Bros before hos, dude!"
  6. jon stewart:
Okay, here's the thing. Jon Stewart? Is really fucking smart, dude. And funny. And hot. That is all.
  7. mst3k:
MST3K. Just--this is my favorite show EVER. I discovered it in high school, when Picara happened across it on TV one weekend. It was the perfect show for us, because we make fun of pretty much everything we watch. There was a nerve-wracking week when the VCR broke right before Thanksgiving, and we had to convince our parents to get another one immediately so we could tape the Turkey Day marathon. That would have been, what, 1997? Good times.
  8. ramona milano:
Ramona Milano played Francesca Vecchio on due South. She tends to get overlooked a lot, but I really love her. She's so very pretty and I totally have a girl crush on her.
  9. television without pity:
Who doesn't like TWoP? There are recaps! And they are funny! I watched so many shows just to read the recaps. To wit: Tru Calling (ugh), Firefly (whee!), Trading Spaces, The Apprentice. And I read recaps for some shows (*cough*7thHeaven*cough*) without watching them at all, because, yeah. They suck that much. And the recaps confirm it. There are so many smart people at Television Without Pity, and they are all obsessed with television. I find that comforting.
  10. twitch city:
Twitch City is this weird Canadian show about a guy, Curtis, who stays inside all the time and watches television all day. Callum Keith Rennie had a role in it, as Newbie the grocery store clerk, and Molly Parker played Hope, Curtis' girlfriend. This show is just bizarrely funny. Curtis' favorite show is Rex Reilly, which is pretty much a Jerry Springer type show, and each episode of Twitch City is named after the episode of Rex Reilly Curtis watches in it. So, for example, the first episode is called "I Slept With My Mother." Also, there's this thing with cats. They're, like, trying to take over the world, or something. If you haven't seen it, you absolutely must, is all I can say.

So I did some research last night on IMDb, which is wicked cool because it lists all the guest stars on The X-Files by episode. Points of interest my research turned up are behind the cut tag: )

Yes, I was bored. What's your point?

There's probably more Due South guest stars who were on The X-Files, but these were the ones whose names jumped out at me. Plus the other people, of course.

Also, somebody claims that James Allodi is in Chicago Holiday, though IMDb doesn't list it. Now I totally have to check that out, because I am currently stalking James Allodi. In a non-creepy way.
